Chronic Dev Blog: You wanted an update

  • 7ate9 · 10 months ago
Chronic, thank you for just popping a quick update out there to let people know you're still around. Props to you and dev-team for the ongoing dedication to redsn0w. dev-team didn't even want to work on the ipt2g, so their attention is especially appreciated. I don't know who among all of you get the tethered redsn0w lite released, but I VERY much appreciate that! My son and I have now moved to ipt2gs and are selling our 1g Touches.

Ignore, as thankfully you seem to have no problem doing, all the whiners and complainers and ignorant d!cks who seem to forget that you are all doing something complex and difficult, that none of them could EVER do, for no compensation, as a hobby. I am confident that the talent working on redsn0w WILL find a way, if there is one to be found. The tethered jb makes the wait easier for a lot of us, but hey, you'll be done when you're done.

And for the ignorant b@stards here who can't be bothered to Google around a while before asking their stoopid questions, why dontchya go take a long walk off a short pier? Gawd, make an effort to be more than a drooling baby, and at least try for the *appearance* of helping yourself.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Bravo.
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
How much you want for a 1g touch.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Hahaha so screw you to all those people who were telling Stray to get a life etc.

    Can you spell pwned?=P
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Extra Burn: look at the actual update. He didn't say anything other than "You got it."

The postscript was redundant information available at another source, and not "news".
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
impatient motherfuckers. "update, when is the untethered jb coming out?, blah blah blah" its ridiculous that chronic had to make an "update" for all u complainers. If you are truly interested in jb the 2g you should know how to do shit and take the time to research before you have to ask a question
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I thought the exact same thing.

I even called them "motherfuckers" in my mind.
  • edikshion · 10 months ago
yay now when is the real thing comin out?

where can we get the teathered JB?
  • Jay · 10 months ago
  • rocky · 10 months ago
damn.... an update for the sake of having an update..... chonic, I know that a lot of people nag for an update (even when there is nothing to say), but I think you should only do an update when there is some sort of breakthrough or something interesting in general to say...
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
The last update already had 2000 posts on it, it was probably a good time to retire it anyway.
  • Dan · 10 months ago
Will it require LIBUsb to work? And will it work on Windows Vista 64-Bit?
  • iFreedom · 10 months ago
on 64-bit systems LIBUsb seems to f*** up the usb ports.
  • Dan · 10 months ago
However, I found a fix for that after much research I came up with a Tutorial: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
  • jonny30bass · 10 months ago
Does anybody know why snes4iphone is not available in cydia?
  • iFreedom · 10 months ago
yes it is. it's functioning on mine
  • DirEnGrey · 10 months ago
    whats the source?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
It's not available through Cydia, because ZOD is only distributing that app to approved beta testers. There are versions of it leaked out on the internet, and you can download a copy of it, and manually install it using an SSH client to wireless network your iPod and PC.

This guy has great presentation skills, and awesome videos.

hi dev teem i just wanted to say thanks for spending the time to work on the jb i no it is right now just red snow but i no u guys will get it. also i think u should put a post of what the jb being tethered is because it took me a little wile to understand and again thanks
  • bleh · 10 months ago
    hey thanks devteam
just wondering about if your gonna make a pernament jb
seriously a lot of people are too impatient with this
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Where, in any of the blog posts, does it imply that the possibility exists, that they would not make a permanent jailbreak?

The last blog post before this one was a huge comparison about why untethered jailbreak would be so much better than a tethered jailbreak. I pretty much "got the picture" from that.
  • Dark_Link · 10 months ago
Just keep going I tried the feathers but I got a err with iTunes so it looks like ill just have to whate till the nice GUI verson hat isn't teaherd is out can't whate till it's done.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Was it the 1604 error?
  • Ubaid · 10 months ago
Stray ur a hero LOL btw why is the whole iphone dev spammers here now???

LOL, I'm just an internet nobody, like any other stray commenter.

  • RiChO · 10 months ago
We inpacientes by the end jailbkreak ...........

The truth has many bugs redsn0w .......... hopefully the final jailbreak is perfect as you can do !!!!!!!!!!!
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
redsn0w does not have bugs. It's the differences in Windows PCs that make the process have bugs. Because every computer is a little bit different, everyone has different errors.
  • volcomstnboi · 10 months ago

A whole list of them is at
    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....

    There's even one in German.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I kinda interpreted the question to imply that he's trying to paste an exe into the command line.

    Maybe I misinterpreted the question.
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
Any word no that Bluetooth chip? i'm liking those stereo headphones
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I hear the audio compression through bluetooth makes them sound like crap.

Will be awesome if they can get it to have good audio.
I would "test" the headphones at the store before buying.
  • Jay · 10 months ago
Hey I think I heard someone say this but I'm not 100% sure on this.. When I jailbreak does it mean I have to re-sync my music, videos, apps etc. etc. onto my ipod? And would that mean that I lose all the data for my apps?
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
it wipes it clean but you can restore from backup for your settings and apps you had. Then put the music etc. on it.
  • Me · 10 months ago

  • poopdick · 10 months ago
FUCKING MOTHER FUCKING , I LOVE UPDATES

ps, good job chronic and dev team.
  • Brown-Eyed Albino · 10 months ago
Quick question, would it be at all possible to rewrite the firmware so that instead of completely powering down to reboot, it would just restart iboot? I know this is a silly question, but still, wouldn't mind if it got answered.. It would make the jailbreak a bit more permanent, even though it wouldn't take care of completely shutting the thing off. Anyway, just tossing that out there. Great work so far! I'll keep checking in!
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
Here's the trick I have posted before,

You can't do this on the first page but wlyou have to scroll to the right more farther more good chance of sucess.

Now hold an app icon and press the home button before it wiggles and the iPod will crash but there's gonna be an animation that always appeared when u turn off ur iPod and it will take u to the unlock screen

There u go, u just soft restarted ur iPod!!!!
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
LOL the soft restart method was a serious one ...
  • Jay · 10 months ago
Lol what is that just supposed to be to make people have to move the app all the way back?
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
No the app will not move permanently if u do it right
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
Haha that is respringing and there is an app for it
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
Anyway, how's the Bluetooth chip research going? I want to transfer files over Bluetooth or something else and there's a FM receiver right?
  • Andy · 10 months ago
Well its early days but there is a Bluetooth chip. Get the freememory app and under process' youll see bluetoothserver running :D
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
    i really need help now...

mt ipod is like the screen brightness is so low, i have to get to a sunlight to see it, i tried to adjust the brightness and turned the autobrightness off but no effect even i rebooted it.. no effect...... but when i click the wake button it will bright like normal for 1 sec and return back to the faded and when i do something at the brightness screen like turn the switch or adjust, it will flick a bright and return to faded back......... is this a soft problem or a hard problem.

this also happened just a few mins that it will bright at the unlock screen and when i slide it will return to faded back and i restart(hard and it works but now it's like the above)
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
ok i'm trying to restore it..
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
well, no luck... maybe i will have to take it to apple.. :(

  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
It's a super secret squirrel operation. The fact is, the untethered jailbreak is out, but it's only released to The Secret Brotherhood of Grapefruit and Pound Cake. We hold our meetings in the Trans America building every Sunday at noon, on the observation level.

  • Matt · 10 months ago
You don't have to be a smart ass about it. Mr. "you want an update, you got it." We get it, there's no untethered jailbreak out for the 2nd gen ipod touch. We all, or most of us, know this.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
To the people that get the joke: It's not aimed at you.

The joke is on the dumbasses that don't get it.

Ironically, you took personal offense at the joke. I'd do the math, but you'd just get offended again.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
I wasn't offended, I was just saying he doesn't have to be a retard for saying what he said.
  • Kb · 10 months ago
    Bahaha. Funny stuff.

Lol chronic would say something like that XD
  • chronicdev · 10 months ago
yeah, maybe you get it, but the people that consisted of every other comment on the blog saying "update plz!!!!" don't.
  • Chronic team is a loser · 10 months ago
you guys should not update your blog unless there is something to update you guys man no wonder you guys arent making any progross all my money is on the iphone dev teams lol
  • Noogah · 10 months ago
Excuse me "Chronic team is a loser" but the chronic dev team developed iRecovery, which is what iphone dev used to jailbreak the iPod touch 2g People kept bugging the chronic dev team for an update, so he made one. Now listen up! The CHronic Dev team did not make this blog to compete with iPhone dev. Chronic dev has aid in the past that he very much respects the iphone dev team (as do we all!) and made this site to help them out! For a long time, the iPhone dev team was busy with iPhone stuff, and they didn't have time for iPod 2g. So chronic dev developed this blog, and made a lot of progress! The iphone dev then took the knowledge that chronic-dev had earned to create redsn0w! Without chronic-dev, there may not even BE a jailbreak yet! Show a little respect, and dont be so immature!
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
    yeah!! yeah!!! lol
  • Chronic team is a loser · 10 months ago
    there still losers lol
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    This dipshit is completely clueless.

He can't even see that this "update" was a total joke. The humor was totally lost on him, it went right over his head.

Like many other retards, he had to open his mouth, and make himself look like a total jackass.

    Congratulations!
  • Chronic team is a loser · 10 months ago
no i got the joke but there still losers lol

  • Chronic team is a loser · 10 months ago
lol i still think there losers no matter what anyone says to me i will always think there losers what you gonna do tell on me lol
  • chronicdev · 10 months ago
yeah and that is why you spend so much time here. you are either:
    (a) an idiot
    (b) a troll
    (c) crying for attention
    (d) all of the above
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
This dumbshit shows his lack of understanding with every post.

It's not Chronic-Dev Team, vs. iPhone Dev Team at the line of scrimmage.

It'ts been common knowledge that both teams are collaborating at the sideline, and they are squared off against Apple at the line of scrimmage.

The tethered jailbreak was a "first down", and untethered will be a "game point". At which time, it will be Apple's turn to take the offensive line, and try to move to the goal.

Putting your money on either Dev Team is placing your money on BOTH Dev teams.

    Here is the ultimate burn:
The Dev Teams are not playing a professional game at the Superbowl, they are playing an amateur game of field football, at the local park as a hobby.

This douchebag is rolling like a professional gambler, and he doesn't even know what he's betting on. Every new post makes him look more retarded than revealed by his original post.

    Lets recap the score:

Chronic Dev - Gains the satisfaction of learning a new technology.
Dipshit poster - Gains the false sense of satisfaction at posting "his feelings".

    One Year From Now:
Chronic Dev - More knowledge, satisfaction in exploring an interesting technology.
Smug Dipshit - Still a clueless smug dipshit, that has learned nothing. Namely that nobody gives a rats ass about "his feelings". Or opinions.

  • MuscleNerd · 10 months ago
For the record, we did not use iRecovery. We have our own tools (both a GUI and a text version), as our videos showed. These tools were needed before the ipt2g even came out -- for all the other devices.

Also for the record, we did not "take the knowledge that the chronic-dev had earned to create redsn0w". Chronic is the first to tell you that. We have built up a pretty good understanding of Apple's mobile devices over the years :)

All that being said, you're right it's not a competition. And people should find better things to do than come onto someone's blog and antagonize. :(
  • chronicdev · 10 months ago
I did? Please let me know where so I may correct it, I did not mean to imply that you guys used anything from us in redsn0w, I thought everyone else knew this too :/

I can do every step till the iPod screen turns white, because then my windows makes the same noise like when he doesn't recognizes something I plug in the USB port ("di-di-ding" and not "di-dong" or something like that) i've installed the apple recovery (DFU) drivers ....so.....any solution for me?

My iPod froze so I turned it off. I tried turning it on, and it worked! Just said it was in safe mode then told me to respring. So why did it alow me to turn it on?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    That wasn't a re-boot.

What you did was used the "soft-off', that's more of a sleep-like feature. The RAM stays active, and doesn't flush the data. When you click the power button to resume, it just powers up the screen again.

You'll notice when it's "off", it will still alarm, and chime new mail. The CPU is active, and the device is totally functional, it's just a power saving mode.
  • -wiseman- · 10 months ago
Confused if a ipod freses it needs to be turned off or plugged into a PC (if its totally not responding)

So what this guy did was "press" not "hold" the sleep/power button??
  • To mongrel · 10 months ago
I held the power down and slid to turn off. It definatly turned off. Anyway, mine has never recieved mail by of self. What are the settings to do that cuz I have to acualy open the mail app and then it automaticly starts searching for new mail.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
You turned it off, and it's a jailbroken 2G iPod?

It's in the settings, under "Fetch New Data"
Turn PUSH on, and select an interval to have the device check your EMail account for new mail.
You can have it check every 15 min, or once an hour, or manually.
  • To mongrel · 10 months ago
I think what happened was it froze when I slid it to turn off and just went to sleep mode. But I got my mail working thanks. Don't listen to those asses who say you sit around this website all day, cuz so do they.

    You wanted an update
    You got it.

PS: in non-exploit news, new iRecovery is in SVN, 0wnboot source is in SVN, we dumped iPod touch 2G bootrom, and tethered jb is released. if you have been “in the know”, this is old news to you.

In other words....if they knew WHEN it was coming out....they would have said so. Instead, they gave you the update everyone was demanding.

How do u see if u have 32 bit or 64 bit windows
What is the difference and why does it effect jailbreak
  • Lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
If you can't tell you shouldn't even think about jailbreaking
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
That's probably good advice, this jailbreak procedure is pretty technical, and requires perseverance and tenacity to overcome any technical hurdles that obstruct your goal.
  • Ubaid · 10 months ago
Srry that was a stupid question I ha to ask
But I am about to jailbreak with GUI
    First advice I won't follow
Technical difficulties arise due to system and tampering
A far as I know no one had trouble with xp 32 bit without being completely stupid
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
It's not a stupid question, if you learn something new from it.

  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Every Windows PC is different in many ways, both in hardware, and system software, so there are a wide variety of errors that can pop up trying this process on a range of PCs.

Right click your "My Computer" icon, and select "Properties"
It should say within the System summary if the OS is a 32-bit or 64-bit version.

Yup, they stopped altogether, and now are building a huge robot that can break orbit. No time for iPods anymore, we got bigger fish to fry.
  • Marc · 10 months ago
Rofl, no really will i ever get perm. JB ?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
That gets asked alot, and the information is common knowledge, that a permanent jailbreak is optimistic, but in no way, an assured eventual reality.

The title of the blog here is "Chronic Dev Blog - nothing to hide"
If you read his blog, you will find nowhere is it even suggested that he and his team have "given up" and I have no idea why people keep coming in here asking that.

I would like to know who told you that, and where everyone is hearing that rumor?
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
    ROFL!!!!!! marc just got mongrolized
  • Marc · 10 months ago

  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Anyone got the original Tap Tap Revolution working? Or is it true it's not around anymore on 2.x?
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
i got it and works beautifully:)... where the hell are you guys getting all these rumors about programs no longer working with 2.x.x software updates or how if its cracked they will brick your ipod . So far they have all been false.

  • Charlie jennings · 10 months ago
I can't open the archive in Mac osx 10.4 ppc. Any ideas???
  • RSP · 10 months ago
hey stray ive got another slight problem. its not a big deal cuz i can just download all the songs again, but it will take a long time to get over 1000 songs all over again, so im checking to see if this is a common occurrence that can be fixed. After i jailbroke my ipod, i synced my music back onto it, but only a handful actually got synced. all the others said there was a problem syncing because the original file was not found. so ive only got like 30 song on my ipod now =/. most of my songs come from torrents (sorry ive got no money), so im thinking it was something to do with that. any thoughts? thanks in advance
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
The last remaining files of those missing songs must have been on your ipod but not the computer. You will have to get them again but try to consolidate your library so it won't happen again.
  • RSP · 10 months ago
    consolidate my library?
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
Ya so say you use limewire, when you consolidate your iTunes library, you can delete it from limewire but not get an error. Basically iTunes makes it's library saved so you can't accidentally erase all your songs.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I would copy/paste them all manually, to be sure my folder had everything in it.

Incidentally, the "My Music" folder I currently use on this machine is a direct copy of the "My Music" folder made by Win98SE, on a computer I built 9 years ago. I've burned it on a data DVD twice, and because I place "My Documents" on a different partition, every time I have to reinstall an OS, it remains intact. I just add to it, from time to time.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
The problem with torrent downloads, is they commonly default to a "My Downloads" folder, usually made in the same directory as the bit torrent client. Depending on which client you use, you may be able to move files to another location. If you have used multiple download clients, your music could be scattered in several locations.

I highly recommend to anyone that has a music library, always rip/save/download all your MP3s into a single folder. You can use subfolders to separate albums, and artists, but having them all in one central location makes it much easier (faster) to import the full collection into whatever music manager you use, and easier to burn Data DVD backups of the library.

You might have to re-scan for your music. Do you have an external drive, that was removed for some reason, or a HDD fry on you? Maybe some of the locations were networked drives?

Hard to say what the problem is, because everyone uses different directory methods, the most common being "save it on your desktop", which I think is the worst advice to tell anyone.
I would say 30 songs out of 1000 is a major problem. I am not sure a rescan for music would help or not at this point, but I don't think you have a choice.
  • RSP · 10 months ago
alright. thanks again. my problem was that with the torrents i downloaded all got saved to my desktop by default, and i never took the time to put them in a permanent folder, so when i cleaned up my desktop, bye bye music. ill be sure to send them all somewhere safe =].

anyways i just jailbroke my ipod and i have to say its pretty damn cool but i had to do it 2ice cause my stupid friend turned off my ipod just to be a dick don't worrie i kicked his ass haha
the only thing i hate about this jailbreak is that i cant turn it off and everyone i talked to at apple store in order to have a better battary life is to let your battery die at least once a month and make sure you charge your battatry all night after it dies

but other then that this jailbreak is ok i give it a 6 out of 10
but when the full version comes out i will be more happy

so keep going chronic i have faith in you i dont really care who comes out with it first you guys or the iphone dev team as long as its out

  • shnethog · 10 months ago
You don't have to jailbreak it more than once, you only have to input recovery codes when you reboot. It's a bit tedious if you do it manually, but there is a program called "goofball" that automatically inputs the codes for you, so restoring is a breeze... here's the link: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
depends. if you're somewhat good with programing or a noob. but if you are a noob it still is pretty fun takes a looong time if you dont really know what you're doing. still i enjoyed it and learned alot so really its up to you (unless you're really stupid though you might as well give it a try)

Hey Chronic! I've got an iPod-unrelated jail break challenge you might be interested in.
Have you ever owned/seen Airport Express? This is a tiny wi-fi router from Apple that has some cool hardware -- a USB port, audio output and a processor capable of running 802.11n.
Wouldn't it be really cool to jailbreak it, install SSH on it, pump it up with VPN support and stuff, extend it with a hard-drive thru USB (which it doesn't support), and do a lot of other cool stuff.
Apparently, nobody ever tried to do that, which is a shame, since it looks like quite an interesting small device.
BTW, this is probably the smallest device you can use to charge your iPhone thru USB :)
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I've heard alot of great things about that device, and alot of complaints about it not being utilized by Apple for greater things. I've heard of it used as a print server, and a handful of other uses, but it's capable of alot more.

    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
Just need a wireless router, or wireless NIC card in your PC.

Install Open SSH through Cydia, and run the WinSCP client. it takes literally 3 pieces of information to connect the PC and iPod.
    1) The IP address of the iPod
    2) The user (root)
    3) The password (alpine)
  • Rjo93 · 10 months ago
If a untethered jailbreak is released can u still jailbreak your iPod if u have already used the tethered redsnow jailbreak
  • B_X · 10 months ago
    I believe so...
You might have to restore your firmware and then jailbreak it...
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
You will always be able to jailbreak your iPod, regardless of which procedure you use.

The details of whether or not you will keep your current "ipsw" setup when changing to the untethered jailbreak have not been addressed, but it's likely to mean re-restoring your custom_restore.ipsw in the process, effectively wiping out your iPod all over again. Be sure to try and backup the device with iTunes before doing either jailbreak.
  • Anthony · 10 months ago
I did all steps in cyw00d's program.

Then I restored in iTunes. Then I get message that USB device malfunctioned and is not recognized by Windows. Black screen on iPod now. No idea how to fix.

    Any help?
  • seth1216 · 10 months ago
hook it up to ur comp and put it DFU/Resotre mode and click resotore if donest work download a custom firmware and custom restore
  • Anthony · 10 months ago
I think the USB is working again because there is no error and iTunes pulled up. It says restore. I tried shift+restore and after two minutes of "preparing for restore" I got a 1601 error.

    What is that?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Faulty custom_restore.ipsw file. Some PCs compile it incorrectly for no apparent reason. Get an ipsw file that was proven to jailbreak successfully.

does anyone know how to put cracked apps on the ipod???
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
We don't support the use of cracked apps.

Nintendo isn't going to make any more money on old NES games, or even SNES, or N64 games, that ship has long since sailed off into the horizon. Playing Super Mario Brothers on your iPod/iPhone isn't going to burden Nintendo with monetary losses.

App store Applications are mostly produced by small time developers, that have small overhead, and in some cases, might be a guy that programs at home as a hobby. They invest in the development software, and sink capital into producing these apps. They then charge almost nothing to buy them from the app store.

Burning these developers is wrong. They most often provide free lite versions of their apps, and charge almost nothing for the full version.

I'd like to encourage you to think twice about using cracked applications.
  • DirEnGrey · 10 months ago
thats right. plus apple takes money from them to (.30 cents to the dollar) for download which is bad enough. i just wanted to do this for custom themes. and whoever gets cracked apps i hope apple catches you then u get sued by the developer if the app for like 100 fold of the price of the app for which you were too cheap to buy

  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Yeah, that's the exact same tutorial I used.
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
you could also use Cyw00d's unofficial GUI if you don't want to go through all the hassle.
  • exkaliburr · 10 months ago
    how does this work?
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
you just go here http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.... download the tool and it's pretty much like a tethered jailbreak for noobs it tells you exactly what to do like disconnect your ipod without having to do all the technical stuff so if you don't have at least an hour and a half to do it manually I recommend this tool.
  • exkaliburr · 10 months ago
how long does Cyw00d's unofficial GUI take to jb my ipod touch 2g?

    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
  • exkaliburr · 10 months ago
what is Cyw00d's unofficial GUI? i haven't heard of this before..
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
it's just a tool or program that does all of the commands for you you will just need to do all the simple stuff such as unplugging your ipod and plugging it back in so it is pretty much a tool that almost automates the process of a tethered jailbreak.
  • ipt2g · 10 months ago
im me if your have problems jailbreaking,

here is my msn im name: dannguyen98@hotmail.com
    or yahoo name: dannguyen98@yahoo.com
  • Coldfusion65 · 10 months ago
So, in tethered, your ipod would have to officially be "turned off" for the jailbreak to be deleted. Is this when you hold the hold button and you are asked if you want to turn your ipod off?
Also, if your battery dies, will the jb then be deleted?
    thanks in advance
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    hey
the jailbreak WILL NEVER BE DELETED UNLESS YOU RESTORE YOUR IPOD

You just reapply the patch and viola, it's the same as when u turned it off, so nothing gets deleted:)

if ur battery dies, put it into the charger, then put it into DFU and boot it with 1clickboot
  • Coldfusion65 · 10 months ago
sorry, im a complete n00b ipod hacker haha.
    and thank you.
BUT, how much work is it to reapply the patch and put it into DFU and stuff?
    have never done this before
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
you can download a tool called 1clickboot
you just put your ipod into DFU, and launch the application on ur computer, and your ipod will be up within 15 seconds:)
  • 1569. · 10 months ago
Coldfusion65, no ur jailbreak dusnt get 'deleted'...u just have to put ur ipod into dfu mode, open up a command prompt and type in some commands, thats how i used to do it but now whenever i turn my ipod off i just use this program called 1clickboot. its so easy all u have to do is put ur ipod into dfu mode, if u dont wanna do that just click the file called dfumodehelper.bat and it will put ur ipid into dfu mode for u, then click 1clickboot.bat and thats it, ur ipod will boot up. Beofre i thought doing the tethered jailbreak was stupid, but its actually not bad, the only con i found was the booting process. but thats not even a big deal anymore since this 1clickboot came out.
  • Coldfusion65 · 10 months ago
cool, i will definately jb my ipod now, since u make it sound so easy :)
    tysm
haha im grounded so i will do all this when i get my ipod back.
  • exkaliburr · 10 months ago
before the jb, do i need to update my ipod to ver 2.2.1? and where can i get 2.2.1 IPSW file?
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
you can get it from right here

    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
and no you don't have to update before jailbreaking you just need it to create a custom ipsw.
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
Yea I totally agree with you a tethered jailbreak is no problem you can turn it off completely if you want for the night then in the morning come connect to your computer quickly run 1clickboot and you'll be up and running in less than 15 sec so a tethered a absolutely no problem and surprisingly it actually is fairly stable I haven't found any bugs that would crash the ipod yet so that is great. And also even if you just lock it there are two advantages a fast boot with no computer required and it wastes zero or minimal amount of battery power. So when you're locking make sure to turn off ssh wifi and the sound and it will consume almost zero % of the battery power.
  • DirEnGrey · 10 months ago

13.) After your restore is complete, put you iPod into DFU mode.
It may seem like your iPod is "bricked" (Windows says the device is unrecognized), but don't panic.
Simply be very exact with your DFU timing and iTunes should recognize your device (it'll tell you it needs to be restored, don't do that though).
Enter the following in your Command Prompt:
    Code:
    iRecovery -f iBSS211.dfu
Unplug your iPod, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
Your screen should be white now.
    Run the following after:
    Code:
    iRecovery -s
    arm7_stop
    mw 0x9000000 0xe59f3014
    mw 0x9000004 0xe3a02a02
    mw 0x9000008 0xe1c320b0
    mw 0x900000c 0xe3e02000
    mw 0x9000010 0xe2833c9d
    mw 0x9000014 0xe58326c0
    mw 0x9000018 0xeafffffe
    mw 0x900001c 0x2200f300
    arm7_go
    arm7_stop
    /sendfile iBSS221.dfu
    go
    /exit
Wait for your iPod to reconnect (it should disappear in iTunes, then reappear in a couple seconds).
    Run the following:
    Code:
    iRecovery -f iBoot221.img3
    iRecovery -s
    go
    /exit

Hi Chronic! So my 2g ipod touch is definetly jailbroken, and i have to connect it to the computer in order to make it boot (obviously). But today i experienced something really weird. The iPod starts up without iRecovery, but a weird screen shows up. You can check out cyber-angel-blog.blogspot.com. This is NOT fake. I will post a video soon. Please check it out. Did everyone mention that Apple released a new update (2.2.1)?
Should i download it?, or is it some fix for the bootromcheck exploit?
  • Erikdamasta · 10 months ago
No u will need it to jailbreak your iPod.
  • StevenSSX · 10 months ago
...What is all this stuff they are talking about?

"non-exploit, SVN, iRecovery, 0wnboot, tethered jb???"

Anyways, can anyone tell me whether or not the iPod Touch 2G jailbreak is ready? I managed to take that there is one but you have to boot up your iPod from your computer or something.

Any help would be appreciated, also if you have links, or would like to give me some steps, on how I can jailbreak my iPod Touch 2G.

    Thanks.
  • StevenSSX · 10 months ago
Nvm! I Found a post on Facebook (from a poster below) which easily shows what to do, in not-so-technical terms.

    Thank you!

    http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=8010&po...
  • StevenSSX · 10 months ago
    Sorry for the multiple posts.

Also, before I attempt this jailbreak, what will it change on my iPod Touch 2G?
IS it EXACTLY like the iPod Touch 1G jailbreak (meaning there is Cydia, Installer, etc.)? Is there also a way I can delete the jailbreak, and bring my iPod back to normal in case anything goes wrong?
  • Matt · 10 months ago
Yes it´ll be exactly the same. Except from thatt theres a signature check on the 2g ipod touch, which means you will have to connect your ipod to the computer everytime you turn it off, in order to turn it on. This is because that the new bootrom apple use in their 2g ipod touch, wont run unsigned firmware (custom firmware). Also, when jailbreaking, make sure to install LibUSB, otherwise the computer wont be able to communicate with the ipod. Good luck! :D
  • StevenSSX · 10 months ago
Thanks for the reply. I feel more confident now.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
    youre welcome ;)
  • Matt · 10 months ago
oh... and yes you can always restore the iPod, in case anything goes wrong.
  • RSP · 10 months ago
alright so i have succesfully jailbroken my ipod before, and now i restored it in order to show my friend how to do it. everything went well until step 13, after i restored it to the custome firmware, screen turned off, and i cant seem to put it in DFU mode. I'm not aware of anything im doing wrong. any idea?
  • RSP · 10 months ago
nevermind i got it. i just reinstalled libUSB and it worked. something must have went wrong with the initial install.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
I suggest you download boothelper. The same thing happened to mine. Here you go: http://rapidshare.com/files/195593330/2gipodtou...
  • darksithlord · 10 months ago
So I must say that since the tethered came out i am quite unconcerned about when the untethered will be released I am more than happy with this
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
I agree 100% In the event of a permanent jailbreak, I will simply be pleasantly surprised.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
A permanent jailbreak: to actually make the software that will allow you to permanently jailbreak your ipod, is not the big issue here. The thing is, that bypassing the signature check, would mean that youre running unsigned firmware on an apple device. This is illegal, which is probably why it takes so long. I think the dev team is trying to find other ways to actually permanently jailbreak the ipod.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
guys please use boothelper for easier boot when starting up your 2g ipods: http://rapidshare.com/files/195593330/2gipodtou...
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
bookmarked, gotta bring my ipod to a reseller(very bad luck just 1 month and the power/sleep button sinked and some dead pixel and now all dead!! but the touching still works but not the display :((((((((()
  • Matt · 10 months ago
wow thats sad.. you didnt jailbreak yor ipod before it broke did you?
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
i din't have the chance to jailbreak it cuz the display is dead :(
  • Matt · 10 months ago
well thats a good thing. You atleast have the warranty now. Theyll give you a new one for sure. :D
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
can anybody tell me how did the original firmware pass the bootrom check, can't we duplicate this cuz apple can make an update and make everyone update their firmware without problems...is the compilation of the apple firmware is too complicated? maybe someone can compare the 2.2 and 2.2.1 and the custom firmware, maybe u can find something and make it permanent.. if it's not complicated.. i understand u guys did ur best and hard work for all of us.. THX TO ALL IPOD TOUCH 2G JAILBREAK DEVS!!!
  • Matt · 10 months ago
As I said before.. It is simply strictly illegal to do this, which is why they might be thinking of an alternative way to jailbreak. In order to pass the signature check, you must have a firmware SIGNED BY APPLE. in order to run apps, it needs to be SIGNED BY APPLE, which is why it is so complicated to pass the signature check. they did not have this issue with the 1g :D
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
well, jailbreak is illegal so have do we have to worry about the signed by apple? just trace it and put it on our custom firmware lol.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
well having to actually pass the bootrom, could sound like a hardware mod. And the 2g ipods CPU wont let us bypass the signature check. This is the major issue, which is why we need big a** hacking here.
  • StevenSSX · 10 months ago
    On the tutorial,

    http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=8010&po...

I'm stuck at the part where it says:

    - Type this exactly, but without brackets. (ipsw "221ORIGINAL.ipsw" "221PATCHED.ipsw" -s 700 bundles\Cydia.tar)

    The directory I'm using is: D:\My Documents\My Pictures\REDSNOW\XPwn-0.5.7-win32

When I enter the command, cmd prompt says: error: Could not load IPSW

I think this is due to the fact that there is no file named 221PATCHED.ipsw. It says nowhere to have this. What can I do, I've followed the steps previously.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
this command will make the patched firmware.. do you have the original firmware? and did you rename it to 211ORIGINAL.ipsw? and also.. remember to run this command before doing anything : cd D:\My Documents\My Pictures\REDSNOW\XPwn-0.5.7-win32

    now run this command:
    ipsw 221ORIGINAL.ipsw 221PATCHED.ipsw -s 700 bundles\Cydia.tar

    hope this helps :D:P

  • darksithlord · 10 months ago
I was getting the same problem until I stopped all my downloads on my pc now it's fine
  • xXShAd0WXx · 10 months ago
Hey guy's long time no see from me...Anyway whoever keeps asking about the NES romes that come from sources, none of hem are really working because we are all running on 2.2.1 firmware. So we need an update for the sources, they are going to update customize because it's not working for 2g users....
  • xXShAd0WXx · 10 months ago
Hey I do not know about you guy's bur sshing into your 2g is possable i have tried and it works....
  • xXShAd0WXx · 10 months ago
Guy's if any of you are having a problem with your Summerboard crashing it's because of the app "STACK".Now this app confuses summerboard so sometimes if you use it it will crash your summerboard. So sometimes it will go straight to "Safety Mode", in order to bypass this either delete the last thing you downloaded or delete "STACK" off of your 2g.....

    Hey guys! ok so I started a new project: SadiPod. Go check it out. It might be a step closer to the untethered 2g iPod touch jailbreak;

    cyber-angel-blog.blogspot.com

    Good night! :D
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
I got it again today with the iBlank.app after I created 2 blanks.
  • Matt · 10 months ago
Awesome!!! Thats good! I have the same app.. Can you give me a hint on how to make it crash? It seems like my iPod just don't wanna crash a whole lot . And all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for letting me know.;) I will demonstrate how to in a live demo next week, but I need an explanation for it, and this might help.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
All I did was create 2 blanks, pressed the home button, and then it went sad and in "Safe Mode."
By the way, this is not an exploit. The IDT knows they need and they (I'm sure) know about this. They know what to look for, so have no fear.
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago

Hey, I've decided to take the plunge, but I have a couple of questions...

    1) My computer is a hackintosh, with fudged together kexts from several different updates... I'm on 10.5.6, but not sure which version my iousbfamily.kext is from... how do I tell if I'm okay, or need to download the new ones?

    2) What's the easiest tool/guide out now for doing it on a Leopard 10.5.6/Intel machine?

    3) Will I lose my apps? I know I'll lose music and stuff, but I can put those back on...

Thanks for anyone that can help me!

oh, umm where did you go to do your jailbreak, like on youtube?
  • HELP!! · 10 months ago
I have jailbroken my ipod touch 2g, with installer and cydia. Idk why, but my installer wont work right, it won't let you add sources and if it happens to allow one, then the apps wont install. Also i have the NES emulator but no ROMs, and all the sites i've looked at suggest adding a source in Installer, but, like i said that isn't working... What's going on with installer? Also what should i do about roms? is there a cydia source? Or how do you add ROMs through the computer?

PLEASE help me! I love the JB and i'm just running into some road bumps that would be great to get over :)))

    THANKS!!
  • Dude245 · 10 months ago
SSH the roms into your ipod (Youtube)
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
find a torrent or some download for all the ROMs like the guy under me said you have to SSH it and if you dont kn ow how search it in youtube i dont know about installer i didnt get it. but from what ive heard alot of people are having trouble with it so just try and find another downloader.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Taken me years to collect the ROM library I have, most I have downloaded from shady websites that operated until shut down by authorities, over the years.

From the looks of some of these modern sites, it seems they are being more bold, and offering more ROM files than previously available at other sites.
  • RSP · 10 months ago
Add the source apt.123locker.com into cydia. U can then get emulators and some good ROMs right through cydia, no need to SSH.

if you havent heard in the latest news the pop punk band trio is back thats right blink 182 has got back together and this is what they had to say on there myspace...

Hi. We're blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We're back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy.

    Summer 2009.

    Thanks and get ready...

  • Brettm · 10 months ago
Hey buddy I suggest you do one of two things

    1. Go commit suicide

    2. Go buy a blink 182 album and discover why they are one of the beat bands around

    Fuck you
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Kinda off topic, by a longshot.

Now if the post was a technical post concerning the relationship between a music file, and the iPod Touch, and the music in question just happened to be a Blink 182 MP3 file (by some random chance), then I think it would be considered "on topic"

Band promotion is way off base here.

    http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
Or more information can be found at the Unofficial FAQ site:
    http://redsn0w.pbwiki.com/FAQ

Unless it has been specifically mentioned at either blog, that they have stopped working on the permanent jailbreak, do not post any questions about it. You will prob get mocked viciously if you do.
  • ITheI2gIFamilyI · 10 months ago

  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
The only Apple computers I own anymore are an Apple IIe, and a 1986 Macintosh, so I am completely unfamiliar with the method used on a Mac, but I am willing to bet the troubleshoot process to get it to fly, is similar to the one I used on my PC.

I used a search engine, and read all the hits on the errors I was getting. I would use a manual procedure, and then take any error report messages, and google those and see what people have to say about them.

Stray Mongrel, Tweakman here. If you can, please contact me at the email I have listed in my title. This is only a bulk email account setup thru yahoo. I would rather not list my business account on this blog, due to reasons I shouldn't have to mention.

The reason I am asking you to email me is this. I am the owner of a Cellular Accessory Store based in Norton Virginia. We have been a local based retail store for the past five years, but have recently decided to take our great product selection, and our unmatched customer service online.

Unlike many other large coporate sites, All Things Cell is owned, and operated soley by fellow phone enthusiasts like yourself. For this reason, like every iPhone owner, I have grown to respect the Chronic Dev Team, and the work you have done.

Therefore, as the owner of AllThingsCell.Com, I would like to offer you and the Chronic Dev Team a few promotions at our site. All I need is simply an email to send a promotional code too, and you can then redistribute this code to the rest of the dev team.

As I'm sure you understand, I wish not to list my personal email or contact info on this blog. However, if you wish to verify what I'm saying is true, which I do not blame you one bit for doing, you can visit AllThingsCell.Com, and send the email to the address listed on the site.

Thanks Stray, and I look forward to hearing from you shortly..

****ANY EMAIL SENT TO THE ABOVE ADDRESS NOT REGARDING PROPER SUBJECTS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS HARRASSMENT***

Simply do not send an email to this information, unless you are asked to do so, or you have questions which would be dealing with AllThingsCell.Com.

Again, Any spam, or otherwise unnessicary emails will be considered harassment, and dealt with as so.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I'm not sure what email address you're referring to.

I'm not officially associated with Chronic-Dev or his development team. I'm just some random asshole off the street that comes here and runs his mouth sometimes. I'm probably not who you're actually looking for, to make whatever proposition you intend to make.

Guys. I need some major help. I tried to modify the Slide to unlock text via the SpringBoard.strings file, and screwed up. I now have extremely unapealing text in the place of the syncing text, slide to unlock text, slide to power off text, and my calendar info on SpringBoard has dissapeared. If a kind soul could PLEASE navigate via WinSCP to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj and copy me their SpringBoard.strings file and upload it somewhere? I feel like a total idiot for doing this, and I have a low level of OCD so this is really uncomfortable for me to look at. But, anyway. Please?

Because you are probably not putting the iPod into DFU mode you are most likely holding the buttons too long and are putting it into recovery. Try using Cyw00d instead of doing it the command line way.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
That's exactly what it's supposed to do.

You have to connect to iTunes as if the iPod was "brand new out of the box" and activate the iPod.

Hey guys i jailed broke my ipod :P Its pretty easy with a GUI.

  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Gah Stray...the strings file you sent didn't work. And I have no idea why. Do you have any other ideas?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Are the files tagged with the iPod they came off of? Maybe it's seeing the file as off another iPod and refusing to apply it's data?

Really grasping at straws here, because I find it as confusing as you do.

Is there a hex editor that can open and view files directly through an SSH connection, so I can compare the files on my PC and iPod, side by side, and verify the binary data is identical?

Can that file be duplicated by opening notepad, and entering the same text data, and "save as..." and add the appropriate file extension? If so, I might be able to get you the text info you need to repair your existing file.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago

When is 0wnboot releasing it's own GUI or should i just use a redsn0w GUI or redsn0w itself to jailbreak ....??
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
Use redsn0w becasue with ownboot you'll still get a tethered jailbreak
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Either reds0w or 0wnboot can be utilized in the eventual untethered jailbreak.

For all of you wondering what can be done with a Jailbreak, now that you have it here is a short list:

    - Have A Mobile Finder, kind of like Windows Explorer on your iPod.
    - Copy and Paste Ability with Clippy
    - GBA, SNES, NES, even a PS1 Emulator(although this one is a bit slow atm).
    - SBSettings, allows you to quickly control system options with one swipe, so that you can quickly adjust the brightness, or turn Wifi Off to save batter, A respring button, which is kinda like a soft reset, without actually rebooting.
    - iMobileCinema, watch flash videos.
    - Backgrounder, have apps running in the background.
    - If you have a lot of apps, you can get the Catergories App and sort stuff into neat folders, saves a lot of space on your desktop.
    - Enable Street View on Google Maps, basically you can turn this thing into a mini-laptop.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Good Information.

Some of it, I had already discovered, and some of it I didn't know.

    This post is appreciated.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Okay. Troubleshoot. I'm just having so many problems. I put my iPod in GFU mode to reboot it with 1ClickBoot. That works fine. Then once my iPod goes to the silver Apple screen, it remains like that for awhile. Then, it connects, and iTunes starts to sync apps that are already on it WHILE my iPod's screen is still at the silver Apple. Then something happens, my iPod flashes a quick white screen, then shuts down. I have tried rebooting about four times now, and this keeps happening. Tell me I don't have to rejailbreak=\
  • SVTCobra · 10 months ago
i unplug it when apple logo comes up
  • Stevebill Jobgates · 10 months ago
I feel really sorry for you bam, you've been here since the beginning, always been helpful, but you get repayed with problems with your jailbreak.

Hope it works for you eventually.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Kill iTunes background process before rebooting the iPod, and rip the tether loose when the apple logo pops up, as at that time, any and all data transmission along it are finished.

Also, enable "Manual Sync" option in iTunes, not "Auto Sync when connected to iPod"

I find my Apple store apps act funny when I place them in "Categories Folders", and iTunes claims I don't have permission, or something, to sync apps with iTunes, I forget the exact error message.

guys i have a problem. ever since i jailbroke my ipod the time keeps changing. like the first day i jailbroke it, it was 5 pm and the time on the ipod said 3 am. and right now the time is like 8 pm but on my ipod it says 10:05 pm. im not even changing the time it just changes it self. and i havent rebooted it incase u were thinking that could be the problem. i rebooted once for winterboard but yeah anyone know whats going on with this?
  • Riley2458 · 10 months ago
Its not the jailbreak. My ipod used to do that too when it was a normal ipod. I just clicked time in windows, and unchecked the box sync with windows.time.com or somthin like that, and it went back to normal.
  • aminpro · 10 months ago

  • aminpro · 10 months ago
u have heard wrong, u can't fuckup ur ipod touch 2g(it's impossible). they are just doing it wrong in certain steps but all is reversible .
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
The risk to your iPod is really minimal. You'd have to enter developer commands not mentioned in the tutorials, and those are statistically impossible to typo in on accident, while doing the normal procedure.
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
ok! i'm now going to an apple service center!!!(i did not fuck up my ipod, it's a defect and i din't have a chance to jailbreak it) hope the warranty is valid cuz i lost my receipt but i just bought is last month :/

So, sory to be a noob, but does jailbreaking 2G ipods actually voids the warranty? Like if it was jailbroken and the jailbreak was undone would apple actually know? How about the 1st gen?

    Thanks.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Technically, yes.

    Literally, no.

If you turn in a jailbroken iPod for service, they will not honor the warranty.

If you restore using iTunes, it will restore your iPod to it's state from the factory, and Apple will never know that it was jailbroken, and, honor any and all warranties. A nice run-on sentence. Hard to decide where to break it with commas.

But now i restored my ipod to factory settings, starting my jailbreak all over again. How should i do it now,use cyw00d or follow from ipodtouch.com again???
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
You're just linking a home page, so I have no idea which one of 10 or more "jailbreaking tutorials" that exist in their forums, that you're using, so it's impossible to troubleshoot what stage of the process you're having problems with. I was initially going on the assumption that you were using the same one I used, and that step 14 meant you finished.

If you got the first half of the procedure to go with no error messages, then you are jailbroken, and your problem is only on the reboot.

I would try to reboot manually, or use one of the many reboot EXE designs, like http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....

I haven't actually used any GUI methods at all, so I can't recommend any.

I made a shortcut key to my 1clickboot exe file, and placed it on my quicklaunch toolbar, so when I need a reboot, I can just click the button on my taskbar.

Err LOL no matter what u could restore by putting in dfu. LOL I had same problem when I jbed second time. I just repeated the step. Not hard.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
There is absolutely no way this procedure could damage your iPod in a way that requires Apple repair service.

Not unless you're really trying to fuck it up.

Just DFU and restore. You are always able to revert the iPod to "brand new out of the box" condition.
  • ola dunk · 10 months ago

  • fordmustang111 · 10 months ago
That kept on happening to me. Here's a couple tips.
    1. the ipod has to be turned on and not off.
    2. keep ipod plugged into computer
3.the screen will be black but should appear to be in recovery mode on itunes
    4. do the 10 second thing that you were doing
  • Slbenficaboy · 10 months ago

STRAY_MONGREL: 1clickboot worked but then stopped. and still doesn't work. nore does the 4 second booter thing. it seems the only way that works is the manual way. but that doesn't explain why 1clicks don't work any more for me.
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
UPDATE: the manual way won't work either. and im doing it right. just freezes on the step 14 of this tut. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....

That's the exact same tutorial I used. What do you mean by "freezes"?

The iPod takes an unusually long time to reboot, and it seems to "hang" on the apple logo for a few min, but it always works for me. I think the boot time increases the more crap you install on the system.

  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
LOL, I never even heard of jailbreaking an iPhone/iPod before mid-December, I'm no pro.

The 1604 error means you have a corrupt custom_restore.ipsw file. I have no idea why, but some computers compile it wrong. You're not the only one to have this problem, others have too, as well as I.

Try downloading this custom_restore.ipsw file that was kindly uploaded by erikdamasta:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I5BBVIGA

That's the same file I used, and I haven't gotten the 1604 error since I switched to using it.

Honestly, I looked at the link, and I don't think I am really interested in it.

If I am that worried about my iPod when I'm "on the go", I'll just bring my laptop with me.

But if I bring my laptop, then the iPod kinda becomes pointless or redundant.

Oh yeah, and I thought dfu mode was the iTunes logo with the USB, that could b the reason I was getting screwed up thanx. By then how cone it popped up with a message in iTunes saying your iPod is in recovery mode and everything was n/a like it was supposed to look like?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
It defaults to recovery mode, you have to "force" it into DFU mode.

iTunes reports it as recovery in either case, so it doesn't confuse customers, and cause Apple a ton of support "fan mail".
  • Wrong · 10 months ago
He's not given up.. he simply says its not a priority
I read on the iphone dev team blog that he says exactly this:
"I think the phrase we used was something like "if it looks like it's starting to take too long", then we would release the tethered version. And although 2 weeks isn't *really* a long time, it started to feel long with everyone clamoring for it. :)

Now that we've released the tethered version, though, it's probably fair to say that the untethered version isn't a priority. So it's down in the normal mix of things we're looking at. A month ago it wasn't even in the normal mix :)

Also it's fair to assume that if we find something that can potentially be used for iPhone2,1, that we wouldn't possibly ruin that by releasing it for the iPod Touch 2G first (and tipping Apple off to the problem). The tethered ipt2g jailbreak had no potential application for the upcoming iPhone2,1."

  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
I'm sorry but many people including Arix made it clear that u cannot brick your ipod touch just by doing the steps shown in jailbreaking tutorials so make sure you have completely turned off your ipod touch then put it into DFU mode by holding down the power and home buttons at the same time for 10 seconds then after 10 seconds release the power button and keep holding the home for another ten then the itunes window should pop up and it should ask you to restore your i pod which is exactly what you want to do. Hope this helps.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
He would have known that if he took the time to read back the past 24 hours worth of posts. I know I detailed that information somewhere just a few hours ago.

He's not reading any information, and posting made up crap, and then claiming redsn0w bricked his iPod.

I'm not sure he cares to know the truth, seems to have made up his mind to believe some fantasy.
  • Gerodive · 10 months ago
Okay so I'm sort of a nube jumping into the jailbreak scene and constantly checking for when the permanent 2G jailbreak gets released. Am I correct in assuming that there will soon be a QuickPWN 2G? It seems progress is being pretty constantly made, and I don't want to mess with this tethered/untethered stuff, I just want a nice simple automated jailbreak. Any thoughts on when this will happen?

We then tried rebooting both manually with step 13 of the ipodtouchfans tutorial, as well as using 1 click boot, and both times it seemed to work. The apple logo came up on the iPod like it was rebooting, but it was like that for around 2-3 minutes, after which the circular shaped loading icon appeared in the middle, like the springboard was reloading. That spun for about 5 minutes then the iPod just turned off. Any ideas?
  • Gerodive · 10 months ago
I would just reboot, and if that doesn't work reformat. You'll have to re-jailbreak but that's better than a screwy ipod.
  • RSP · 10 months ago
I can't reboot, that's what this whole problem is. And I would rather not restore it back to factory settings and do it all again, I've got a lot of stuff. I'd rather only do that once I KNOW there is nothing I can do to get it to reboot.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Prognosis looks grim.

Hard to say, but if you get as far as it booting up, and it crashes, there are not many troubleshooting options left for you to try.
  • Gerodive · 10 months ago
Well honestly there's not much else you can do. You were wading in dangerous waters to begin with. Best bet: wait for the permanent bug-free jailbreak. That's what I'm doing. Until then be happy with a plain vanilla non-jailbroken ipod. They're actually not that terrible you guys, contrary to popular opinion.

Could someone explain to me how you extract that last file "iBSS.n72ap.RELEASE.dfu" from the official 2.2.1 ipsw, because i do not how to access the contents of the ipsw
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Use Winrar to open the file, as if it were a zipped file. Then navigate the file through winrar.
  • ???? · 10 months ago
Winrar is a windows program isn't it?
    I'm on Mac.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Yikes.

I haven't used a Mac in 10 years. I don't have the slightest idea what the popular software to use on the mac is these days.

Look up file compression utilities for OSX. I would try using the terms "open source" and "zip" possibly, for a hit on a good free utility.

Your tutorial didn't outline any software to use, for this step in the game?
  • ???? · 10 months ago
Should i change the .ipsw file to a .zip file for this?

The tutorial told me to download the 5H11a.ipsw from firefox, but I could only to get it to work with Safari.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I really don't know how it works in OSX.

I just right clicked, and "Open with..." and pick winrar.
  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
i have a mac, on mac it's actually easier, because if you used safari to download the firmware, it makes it into a folder, so just open the folder, and navigate to the file, then right-click, copy, past to desktop. :)
  • ???? · 10 months ago
Is there a link to downloading the iPod2,1_2.21_5H11a folder rather than the ipsw file itself

Unfortunately, it was so late and I became so exasperated and ended up rejailbreaking completely=\
And for some odd reason AptBackup didn't work this time. I've had to restore/rejailbreak so many times...it's insane. Hopefully the...5th time's the charm=)
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    LOL.

Breaking it is the best way to learn about it. I have ruined more windows installs than I can remember, from constantly screwing with registry entries.

I will screw up the "registry" on this iPod eventually, and have to restore it too, no doubt.

Best way to learn how it works from the inside out.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Just out of curiosity, what are your favorite Cydia apps?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
If I had to chose just one Cydia App, it would be Winterboard, easily.

I also like Categories, for cleaning up the "desktop", so to speak.
The Firefox Safari mod, Boss Prefs.

I use the SNES and Gba4iPhone emulation apps also, but those are not installed by Cydia.

I also made a few of my own icons.

those people who sent your ipods in to apple, they will most likely try to fix the problem, (and most likely succeed) and find out it is hacked, and not give you a new/fixed ipod.

that is what happened to my friend, but i got his working again.

Ahh it worked but Im going to do it on my pc and put music onto it from my mac, can I do that?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Yes, just yank the cord as soon as it's rebooting, and start iTunes on the computer you want to sync with. The iPod will boot into "restore mode", connect it to the new computer with iTunes running, and it will "register" your iPod on the appropriate computer.
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago

STRAY: The requested modifications cannot be be applied due to required dependencies or conflicts that cannot be automatically found or fixed. I am terrified to be asking this as I know a lot about jailbreaking and computers myself, but, how can i fix this "little" problem...edit: HUGE PROBLEM that is keeping me from downloading certain packages from cydia. Yours or anyones help would be greatly appreciated, and I look forward to reading the responses.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
That's a new one on me. Which application prompted that error?
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
liveclock invisible. i click install then instead of a confirm button it gives me that message. you try it. and do you know the source for Livetime. the package is there but doesnt give me an install button.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
It installed fine on mine, and is working as expected.

I have never received an error of that type before, you say this has occurred to you upon trying to install multiple packages?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I just tried to google your error message, and see what I could dig up, but it seems to be a very uncommon error. Could only find 2 solid hits on it. One was some asswipe that got banned after only one week on iPodTouchFans fourm. The other was someone who was trying to install the clippy copy/paste app, but nobody answered the question, or even mentioned it after he did.

My speculation is that something is screwy with your custom_restore.ipsw, or an error occurred in the restore process (maybe needs to be redone) or, maybe faulty hardware (I have no idea what the odds are that the iPod could just be faulty to begin with).

I can't say for sure, without actually seeing it in person, and, like I said, it's pure speculation. I would try to jailbreak it again and make sure my custom restore was a good file.
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
I used the same custom restore you used. The one you oosted feom that one guy. It worked before my ipod froze and had to reaply the firmware.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Maybe the process hiccuped the first time, and the data on your iPod wound up squirrelly for some strange reason. Or maybe it was a download error, and the file is corrupt.

I would try to re-download, and restore that custom_restore.ipsw again.

  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
been known for like 2 weeks now buddy. its called rslite here's the link i used. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....

its a tetherd jailbreak meaning anytime you reboot the ipod *not put to sleep a full shutdown* you have to connect to the computer and redo some commants. hope i helped
  • palyons · 10 months ago
The guy meant a semi-tethered jailbreak, it's on the front page of http://ipodtouchfans.com
  • n4mn4m · 10 months ago
    Ty for the answer :)
  • palyons · 10 months ago
The Semi-tethered jailbreak means that you will be able to restart your jailbroken iPod Touch 2G, however after being restarted, it will not be jailbroken. Basically it's useful if you're out in town somewhere without access to your computer to re-apply the boot patch. You will still be able to use your iPod Touch without the jailbroken functionality, you will instead be able to use it and any legitimate apps you have downloaded from the App Store, as you did before the jailbreak came out.

  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Shhh, nobody is supposed to know that yet, it's a surprise.

They are coordinating it with the 2010 Olympics, and will have a release party that coincides with the Running of the Olympic Torch.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Olympic_Torch...

When the torch hits the cauldron, the server containing the precious untether jailbreak software will be connected to the internet, and the world will be finally untethered.

It will be a joyous occasion. It was supposed to be a surprise, but you ruined it.

  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
    what?
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
instead of a youtube icon, have it playing a mini video of your choise. you can have a live weather, calender, clock. why not youtube.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
The icons are .png files, not sure how you can get the system to honor other image formats.

You wouldn't want an actual YouTube link, cause it would rely on always having a stable connected to the internet, so a .gif would be better.
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
Hmm. Then what are the extentions for live clock and live weather. And whats making them live. Im sure this can be done. I mean you can have a .video or whatever for your background.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I haven't seen live clock, or live weather. I'll have to look those up.

Yeah, the wallpaper can be a .mp4 file extension, I hadn't thought about using one of those for the icons.
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
I think you should really put time into this. Research the different file extentions that the phone/pod can handle. And apply a video icon.
  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
okay so i have a question, the semi-tethered jailbreak will allow you to restart, but not have the jailbreak, and only have access to apple signed software. so if you go home, put your ipod in dfu mode, and re-apply the patch, everything will be back to normal? themes, apps, nothing will be deleted/changed?

hey i just saw theres a new REDSN0W LITE SEMI 102
so what excatly is that? whats the diffrent between the other one
  • Ootcost · 10 months ago
    "This is a variation of redsn0w lite. It's a "semi-tethered" jailbreak.

    When your device reboots:

    - If you are tethered to a computer and apply the appropriate commands,
your device will boot into a fully jailbroken state

    - If you are NOT tethered to a computer or do NOT apply the appropriate
commands, your device will still boot but ALL JAILBROKEN
FUNCTIONALITY will be disabled. This is a temporary condition and
you can get back to your fully jailbroken state by doing a tethered
reboot. All of your jailbroken apps will remain in place but won't
be usable until the tethered reboot.

The concept is straightforward: set up the device so that on its own,
it boots using the official iBoot and kernel. But if you're around to
intervene during reboot, use the pwned iBoot and kernel instead."

    READMEs are for READing.

EDIT: i unplugged my ipod and it still has the other device. i am restoring that now but, wait, it says The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored. An unknown errer has occured (2002). well why the hell does it still say i have a divise connected when i don't. I clicked reject on it and it took me to the apple support web page.

Tap Tap Revenge is the App Store incarnation of Tap Tap Revolution. Revolution could not be on the App store because it used licensed music, and it was not ported to iPhone 2.X firmware. You can't play Tap Tap Revolution on a iPod Touch 2G running 2.X firmware.

However, there are other versions of it from Tapulous that DO include legally licensed music and are a lot of fun. You can find them in the App store.

every time i try to restore from the jailbroken fw, i get a 16xx error. 90% the time its 1604. using itunes 8 and winxp. tried every jailbreak and every fix i could find.
  • andy · 10 months ago
this i sbecause before you restore you hav eto run the arm7 code which you have (so the screen goes white etc). run this code and MAKE SURE ITUNES IS CLOSED when running
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
yeah yeah.. to bypass the bootrom?
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
The 1604 error means a poorly compiled custom_restore.ipsw file.

Some PCs compile it with some apparent error, and iTunes refuses to upload it into your iPod. Download one compiled by a different computer, and use it instead. Windows XP seems to have the most success with that step of the process, I have heard of alot of Vista machines not cutting the mustard, when making the ipsw file.
  • fnybny · 10 months ago
is there any way to ja my ipt2g without using libusb
  • fnybny · 10 months ago
    i m not teh admin :(
  • moses · 10 months ago
i wasn't an admin on my school's workstation but the libusb installer still worked...but if whatever comp ur using isn't letting you, you're screwed: libusb is the only way redsn0w can communicate with the ipod. at least for now.
  • moe25 · 10 months ago
hey after i jailbroke my ipod none of the videos get synch to my ipod all the songs are there but no videos or podcasts or anything can any1 help.
  • Yuusharo · 10 months ago
Are you sure you checked the "sync movies" box within iTunes?
  • moe25 · 10 months ago
ya n when i press synch the songs r synchronized but no videos
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
That's odd, because my videos sync just fine.
I think we need more information about the process when you try to sync video. Does it give any errors? Does the little "sync timer bar" list the video items as it's listing it's sync tasks? Did you try to sync "only the videos"? Can you download a video podcast using the built in iTunes Store in the iPod? If so, does it play ok?

Really not enough information there to troubleshoot the problem.
  • moe25 · 10 months ago
when i connect it to itunes the sync time bar shows the name of the video for a sec but doesnt sync n i tried downloading a podcast from the built in itunes it downloaded perfectly but ddnt show up in the videos
  • Yuusharo · 10 months ago
Man... some of the comments on this site make it almost unusable. What, does everyone from 4chan own an iPod Touch 2G or something?

Anyway, I'm excited at the prospect of a permanent 2G jailbreak even as an iPhone user, but I dare say that I doubt anyone, Chronic, the Dev Team or otherwise, is going to release an untethered jailbreak any time soon. The reason? If they exploit a hole in iBoot and Apple catches on, they may make a revision change to the next iPhone to prevent it. Musclenerd went so much to say that they would most likely keep such an exploit a secret until they determine if it can be used on an iPhone, which won't be released until later this year.

So until that happens, I'd suggest relaxing and get comfortable with a tethered jailbreak for now. The new redsn0w patch lets you boot a vanilla kernel, which at least provides a backup in case your iPod crashes out in the field and you are no where near a computer. You won't have your jailbroken apps, but at least the thing still works. Even for an iPhone, I'd be happy with that if there's no other way.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Isn't 4chan a pedo website?

Why would you make that assumption here?
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
hi, i haven't visited this page for a while and stray, u asked whats wrong with my ipod?

ok the sleep button sunk and threres a dead pixel on the screen and now all dead but the touch sensor still works and din't i told u that the stainless steel on my ipod had an electrical leakage, if i haven't got the ipod protector, i would have shocked and tossed my ipod lol!!! well theres 4 problem

    dead pixel
    dead all(screen)
    electrical leakage
    sleep button sunk
and this happened in the first month i bought it( bought in 28 dec 2008)

    why?!?! why?!?! apple sabotaged me????

anyway, i'm busy watching asian love movies on TV...sad:( but i like to watch those ) like "turn left turn right" "love on the rock" "all about love" etc.
all sad but happy ending but not all has a happy ending( the girl is dead cuz of her body is rejecting the heart transplant bla..bla..).....
  • andy · 10 months ago
err sounds like its a bit broken. Take to apple (NOT JAILBROKEN) and thell repare because its within a year
  • -wiseman- · 10 months ago
Take it to apple, 'GO SIK' and demand free stuff because of all the problems they caused you... and get a replacement ipod touch (dont accept anything else like they send it off to be fixed)
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Wow, that's a pretty good list of garbage. So they didn't just trade you a new iPod for that one?

Don't tell me they are going to take apart that piece of junk, and repair all the problems with it, and give it back?
  • irishpunk44 · 10 months ago
just a thought cuz i really have no idea about how deep into the confguration of an ipod that an app can get but:

do you think that you could in some way create an app that you can download from cydia that can apply the redsn0w patch and reboot your ipod after you have jailbroken it with the semi tethered jb......

so it would be like your not near a cpu so you boot up with normal firmware but then you run the app and and it reboots ipod with redsn0w patch...

i have no idea if this is even possible so dont call me a dumbass or somethin i was just wondering if it is possible
  • B_X · 10 months ago
No app has that much power...I think.
And trust me..if you can, they will have done that.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
This has been asked again and again. It has been answered again and again in the google code pages, and it's been clearly outlined back in December as to why that won't work.
  • AllThingsCell · 10 months ago
Anyone know how to email Chronic, or any other dev team member?
  • B_X · 10 months ago
    I don't think you can...They don't appreciate spam.
The only thing closes to emailing them is through their IRC channel...
  • moses · 10 months ago
    same question, rephrased:
does anyone know how to annoy all the dev team members by PMing them "when are you guys gonna be done?!?!"
"my ipod's broken! how do i fix it?!?!!"
"so does this mean i can play SNES?!?!?"
    "tethered? what does that mean!?!?"
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    LOL, pretty much.

They get enough annoying "update please" and "are you still working on it?" nonsense questions here as it is.
  • Manazanita · 10 months ago
    can anyone answer me?
i know your tired of this question but will it be out for SURE 4th quarter 2009?
    ps:this is not a spam
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
    There's no way to know.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Yes, we asked Miss Cleo to look into the future and tell us when we'd hit that random chance, and she gave us the date, time, and even told us what we'd have for lunch that day.

hey im having a bit of a problem jailbreaking
    im using this guide:
    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
am using windows xp-sp3 32 bit
i am stuck on step 8
i downloaded all the files, saved them on my desktop, both as winrar files and extracted--just incase
i did the cd thing on xpwn and it worked (which is on step 5)

so, my actual problem is that when i type in cd C:\Users\yourusername\Desktop\iRecovery\iRecovery_SVN
with users and yourusername replaced with my info, it says:
system cannot find the file specified

    help please?
    thanks in advance
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    your will say:
    C:/documents and settings/yourname/desktop/iRecovery/iRecovery_SVN

because you have windows XP, and the guide is done using Vista
    so yeah :)
  • Coldfusion65 · 10 months ago
    crap, i knew that
thats what i meant to copy and paste
    still doesnt work
    C:/documents and settings/justin/desktop/iRecovery/iRecovery_SVN
system cannot find the file specified
    Justin is my username

    sorry
thanks for any help u can provide
  • mizzy · 10 months ago
i put .exe after the SVN and it worked
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
Make a folder in C:\ and name that folder with the letter "a".

    Then type >cd C:\a\irecovery\irecovery_svn

    It's not case sensitive.

  • knifeproz · 10 months ago
umm....since what i know is that RSLite came out it was 101, now theres RSLS 102, does that mean they are getting closer to getting the jailbreak? i mean if they can alredy make it rebootable (but jb won't stay) don't they need to find a code that they will make it stay and it's done? (so for example if they were 50% done did they go any higher in progress by doing RSLS?)
P.S. RSLS = Red Snow Lite SEMI
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
There is absolutely no "50%" done.

It is either "they found it" or "they did not find it". There is no halfway.

That information has been clearly defined since December, I am really confused as to why people are still asking this. The information on it has been available to the public for a long time.

This is why asking for updates is utterly ridiculous.
  • 1569. · 10 months ago
    quick question out of curiosity
if you jailbreak ur ipod successfully (using redsn0w) (not semi-thethered), could u still be considered a 'noob'?
cuz i jailbroke it with windows vista so if someone is able to do that, could they still be 'noobs?
im just asking cuz im curious on where i stand with all this lol
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Did you learn something new?

If you did, I would vote "not noob". You might still have a few things to learn, but as long as you're working on it, nobody has any right to judge you.
  • 1569. · 10 months ago
alright thanks for the reply man.
yeah i learned a few new things, but the majority of the jailbreaking i knew since im not too bad at following instructions lol.

Alright. Help needed. I jailbroke my friends iPod, and I told him he'd need software on his own computer to boot it back up. He failed to mention that he had Vista, so when he downloaded libusb, they stopped both is USB mouse and USB keyboard from working. I have XP so am not sure how to get a system restore on Vista. All I need to know is how to do that, and then I'll tell him to change the prefrences when he redownloads it. Anyone, help?
  • iPt2Gnews.Wordpress.com · 10 months ago
Hi, I have vista as well. For this to work right click on the libusb program click on properties, than on the compatilbility tab, and then set "Run This Program to compatilbility:" to Windows XP (Dont matter what the SP is) After that you may want to run it on Administrator. To do so right click on the program and select Run as Admin.

    Reply back.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
I know this already. He didn't tell me he had Vista until he downloaded it. So now he can't log in to do that because he can't use his keyboard/mouse. What I asked for was how to do a system restore from the boot up menu.
  • iPt2Gnews.Wordpress.com · 10 months ago
Well now thats a problem. If he can't log in to his computer than I dont know what to tell you.

Well for rebooting an iPod Touch I suggest you get a "boot.bat" file from Phoenix_1018 at iPodTouchfans.com or I can give you the link to the download, but not many people trust other people with EXPENSIVE stuff now do they?
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
No. Don't talk about anything else right now. What I need is how to do a system restore from the boot up menu.
  • jail · 10 months ago
u can open system with pressing f8 at opening by seleceting disable drive signing.

to remove clear libusb from device manager and uninstall it.thats all.
  • John · 10 months ago
You do know that you don't need a USB keyboard. You can use the mouses/keybaords with (dunno about where you live, but here the mouse has a green circular plug and the keyboard has a purple one) plugs that go straight to your computer. I recomend buying a proper keybaord with proper plugs. The USB keybaord should have came with a transverter plug, mine did, but obviously one does not have the brains to figure out there is more then one way to plug a keybaord into a computer.
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
i had the same problem but when vista is starting up you can still use the keyboard so hit f12 (i think its f12) go into the menu thingy and yea mess around in there (dont mess around too much tho) lol thats what i did it was a while ago so i dont fully remember exactly what to do. hope i helped

  • Jailbroken iP2G · 10 months ago
I dont think that Apple is going to be able to do much about us jailbreaking. There are lots of things being modified out there that is much worse like a modified Xbox that can cheat online. Store games in the hard drive exc. And they should wory a bout the PsP cause they can burn roms to there device and dont have to pay for any games at all. I think apple should just steal some of the jailbreak software like changing your battery or slider. I say fuck Apple. I would have never bought a ipod touch 2g if i couldnt jailbreak. The ipod touch is nothing without it. If they do make it were we are unable to jailbreak are ipod touch. I wount buy any Apple products including ipods. They would loose alot of money. For all of you who havent got your ipod touch 2g jailbroken keep on trying.
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
You meant to say people can transfer downloaded iso's and compressed cso's to there psp's memory card. Not "burn roms to there device."
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
to be honest i think if they did see this coming they probably would've done the same thing. i mean like if they saw we were gonna jailbreak they probably would've let us at least for the 1g because that's just one more thing the ipod can do that the other devices cant. so instead of having themselves get sued now they can say "we tried but we failed its not our fault batman themes are on winterboard" that sorta thing, and really the only people that care about hacking the ipod are the only people that would bother going so far out of there way to JB it or look it up at least. so the way i see it apple's happy they let the 1g get hacked and try to have the 2nd gen alot harder just for them to say "hey look we saw they were doing it we tried to fix it sorry cant sue us for this" these people are buying the ipod for the games and cool customization some are greedy and go for the cheap apps. i hope i got my point across cause well if i didn't this is a waste lol

No Listen, I got the same problem, what you do is,
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Connect ur iPod
    3. Hold power and home for like 6-8 seconds, after you hear the windows USB disconnect soung, let go of power and continue to hold on to home.
    4. Then you should hear a USB connected sound and iTunes should pop up saying something about a restore.
    5. You are now in DFU mode.
    6. You can either give up and restore to old firmware or try using a simpler tool, with something like Cywood's tool;

Hey guys, I've heard many rumors about what apple is trying to do about jailbreaking, and one of the scariest I heard was that apple might include something in a future version or iTunes that can detect modified software, and then removes it against your will, I know this sounds far-fetched, but apple is mad about jailbreaking, I have read many interviews, and they seem like they really want to stop it. After all, jailbreaking is modifing copyrighted code.

Not trying to be a downer or anything haha, I am loving by jailbroken 2g, but I just wanted to know what you guys think.

Get "hClipboard", it's a global copy/paste that works amazingly
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
I have all of those, LOL
I have gpsphone, psx4iphone (although 1 game is like 400 mb), snes, nes, and genesis:P

    What else do you recommend?
I LOVE SWAPTUNES cause I had to reinstall my OS, so I had nothing on it, and so I synced at my friend's house, and then used swaptunes to download apps and sync them from iTunes[cough even cracked] on my dad's laptop, but I have no music:p yay for dTunes

    [yes i have installous]
  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
Haha well hmm mxTube? You can download YouTube videos. Customize is good, and get an app from the app store called TVUplayer. Free live tv over wifi, no catch, no tv tuner card needed, it's really nice. (it's a free app) :]
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    I also have mxTube
    BUT I /don't/ have TVUplayer I'll get, thanks :)

I love the iComplete theme in Cydia

After the permanent jailbreak, chronic or iPhone dev should work on utilizing the Bluetooth chip in the 2g.
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    yeah
I understand if the iPhone Dev don't but Chronic should, cause then he won't have anything else to do lol

im new to the jailbreak scene, but I just installed vista mobile, different lockscreens and sliders, but none of them go into effect. SO I am guessing I have to restart my iPod here. In which case I have to do what to reapply the patch? Thanks for the help guys, like i said first jailbreak! :) (and first iPod)
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
If you downloaded a theme, then it would have automaticaly installed winterboard as well. Yes you need to restart your iPod so winterboard will work correctly. Then go into winterboard and tap on the theme you want/downloaded and your iPod will respring when you close winterboard and your theme will come into affect.
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
im pretty sure winterboard restarts the ipod after downloading it

  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
same here, the only one that saves for me is the gameboy emu.
  • knifeproz · 10 months ago
TRY LOOKING in the application setting and put autosave on
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
You never set the ROMs folder read/write settings. The folder is set to "read only", so it can't save any data in there.

SSH and set the permissions of the ROMs folder to 775.

EDIT: Try setting the snes4iphone folder permissions to allow read/write as well, to be safe.

  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
okay guys im posting this again, because i didn't really get any good responses, and i want to know how the happened.

I was downloading apps from cydia, and one told me to re spring after downloading, nothing unusual, but it took a really long time to re spring, and the wheel was spinning, but not doing anything. after about 5 minutes, I turned it off by holding power and home, and planned to go to my computer, and reapply the patch. But I hit the power button on my iPod, and I saw the apple logo, and it booted into safe mode! So I resprung, and everythng was back to normal! Please, any thoughts guys? Chronic? Stray?
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Probably didn't get any decent responses because it'd already been discussed.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
It just nutted up, and crashed on the re-spring. It never shut off the iPod. The data in RAM and the CPU were still active the whole time, so redsn0w wasn't flushed from memory.
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
Yup, same thing happened to me. Just froze when repringing and just went into sleep mode.
  • xxjailbreakmexx · 10 months ago
then why did the apple logo show? =/
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I don't know the details about how Apple programmed the device, I just know that the RAM was never flushed, and that redsn0w was still in memory. It also happened to me 1 or 2 times.

I just got it for a very very good deal with the 30%live cashback+10% ebay discount like 3 months ago. I've been trying to read but I don't understand much of it.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
First thing you want to do is read this:
    http://www.hackthatphone.com/20/read_me_first.html
That will outline pretty much what "becomes available" to people to jailbreak their iPhone/iPod Touch.

If you decide at that point that "yeah, I really want to do this", then read the procedure at:
    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
This is the manual procedure, and gives you a "gritty" idea of what you are doing to your iPod. Most of the hacking, is RAM hacking, and erases if you turn off your iPod. No permanent changes, except for the "HDD" that contains the actual system, which is erasable, and can be restored to "Brand New Factory" condition, in the event you screw it up, or decide you don't like it, or need to get the iPod fixed under warranty.

The Graphical User Interface method I see praised the most seems to be Cyw00d's creation:
    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
Use this if you're squeamish about manually hacking your iPod, this GUI provides all the steps scripted, and holds your hand through the entire process.

From that point on, you'll need to reconnect to a PC to reboot your iPod, until they develop a new method to apply the redsn0w, or 0wnboot patch internally. I use this script to reboot:
    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread....
Or I have seen it mentioned that you can follow the last part of the Cyw00d GUI Jailbreak Tool to reboot the device.

iPhone's do not have a "Music" app. I suggest getting MobileMusicPlayer Flip, respringing, and you'll have the "iPod" app in replacement to your "Music" and "Video" apps. Saves space, too.

  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Yeah, no problem. Last thing I can come up with: download Freepops from Cydia, then respring. Now, open up Settings, then go to the Mail section. You can set up your Hotmail (I noticed your m•box Hotmail app) to your actual Mail app through the "Other" option. This won't really make it look more like an iPhone, but it helps.
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
    Thx I shall do that.

can anyone tell me how 2 get my ipod off recovery mode pleaseeeeeeeee
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
IDK if this will work but if it is already jailbroken turn it off completely put it into DFU mode and download 1clickboot and run that.
  • ipt2g · 10 months ago
1clickboot didnt work for me even when it was jailbroken i restored it back 2 factory settings more than 10 times and it wont get off recovery mode
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
put into DFU mode read up how to do it
  • 1569. · 10 months ago
i dont know if this has been asked yet or not but i am not going through 1000+ comments to find out lol so im asking if there is customize for ipod touch 2g? if there is whats the cydia source for it?
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
its called winterboard and honestly its al over the comments you probably would only have to read 50 tops
  • 1569. · 10 months ago
alrite dude relax and im not a noob i know what winterboard is and customize is not the same as winterboard
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Customize doesn't work with the 2.2.x firmwares, but on www.customizeapp.com, the developer(s) announced they're working on making it compatible. So I say: keep it installed so you know when it's good to go.

I found if your iPod 2g is jailbro ken it turns off and the computer you jailbroke it with is broken your iPod is dead): I think. Is it?
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago

  • ' · 10 months ago
I thx cud I was unsure because my USB ports kept dieing and I couldn't check
  • nikekid559 · 10 months ago
I know how to get warranty back after jailbreaking your iPod touch I'm not sure about iPhones but it should work.
If any one wants to know just email me at bacosta37@yahoo.com or bacosta1993@gmail.com and another thing if you have a YouTube channel make video please because I've been try to contact youtubers but they don't even replie to my messages.
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
thats because you're some weirdo trying to talk to people when you could easily post it here:) also all you have to do is restore your ipod back to normal and apple wont even know it was jailbroken
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
just click the restore button n00b
  • nikekid559 · 10 months ago
fag no your files are still there here is how you do it

ssh your ipod and then backspace 3 times and then highlight all the files then delete them then just restore it on itunes on any firmware and just so you know this is also how you downgrade the 2.0 software and on the 2g ipod you can only go back down to 2.1.1
  • erikdamasta · 10 months ago
Wow this blog has really calmed down 2 weeks ago there would be posts every minute but now there are post like every hour or so.

Hey guys, I have a big problem. I just got a new computer and it has vista. I installed libusb, and now my mouse won't work. PLEASE HELP
  • knifeproz · 10 months ago
try somehow getting your computer into safemode and delete libusb...you need to set libusb to properties to run as WIN XP SP2
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
Man even in safe mode the mouse wasn't working. But I restored my computer and will install libusb when my iPod shuts off.
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    Somehow, delete libusb
Then re-install it in XP sp2 compatibility mode and it /should/ work
  • knifeproz · 10 months ago
hey i got installer and now theres a bar over it saying 51...6 and there's no sources that i can install (packages) so why is this happening? chronic? anyone?
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Stick with Cydia. To be honest, the way Installer is right now doesn't even compare to Cydia.
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    yeah
    and it's still very slow
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
    Installer?
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    Yes
plus, it doesn't even scoll down smoothly when I'm looking thru the all packages list
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
cydia keeps crashing on me and its starting to get really annoying
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
Never mind. I restored it to last checkpoint. I had tab my way through the system to it though. Man my dad would have killed me. But any ideas of how I would get libusb working on my new vista?
  • knifeproz · 10 months ago
make it into Windows XP Service Pack 2 (thats what it has to run as before you install *for vista users*) and to do that go to the install file and right clikc properties and then serach for the priority tab or something of this sort. (2nd or 3rd tab in prop.)
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
I was under the impresion that I had a 32. But the sticker on the front of my computer says athlon 64. Does that mean I have a 64? or is that a totlly differnt thing. And would this have been the reason for the fuck up?
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
athlon 64 means you have a piece of crap computer LOL
    (that's an old processor)
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
Haha $299. Can't go wrong. But my old one was 256. This is 1 gig ram. I know I know, yours is probly 3 gigs. Also my old one was 120 gig memory. This one is 160. So 4 times the ram for 299$ is good.
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    lol I guess
    Mine was custom
I bought all the parts and put it together with my dad

lol, it used to be pretty good, but now it's average :(
    I want to upgrade:p

I have 2GB RAM, used to have Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, but downgraded to XP SP3 because the performance of vista SUCKS, it's way faster now :P

This has like 350gb memory and we bought a 1 terabyte external hard drive to back everything up LOL
so 1.35 tb of memory for us :D [western digital, costs about $120)
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
They were out but we were gonna get $500 3gb ram, 320 memory. That a great deal! You play halo?
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
    should of gotten that:p

    No, I don't have an Xbox 360
    I have a wii & PS2

and I don't have it for PC

    download 600+ movies! :

    everythingi.webs.com

Click on the ad on the front page, cause I get paid for them LOL
and feel free to download the movies and other cool stuff

need anything, make a fresh post, this one is going in too much lol
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
lol. Hear what's you msn. Or email. Same thing I guess. How would you give me that without anyone else seeing?
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
run the installation in xp sp2 compatibility mode

right click on the installer, and click properties, then on the 2nd or 3rd tab, u can set it to windows xp sp2 compatibility mode and then continue to install it then jailbreak :)
  • mishayou · 10 months ago
Now I only have sp1 for vista. Will this matter?
  • alokg95 · 10 months ago
Yes it will, you still have Vista
So you still have to run the installer in xp sp2 compat. mode
  • aminpro · 10 months ago
for safety precautions, i recommend you do this on your laptop if you are running vista. the laptop's keyboard or touchpad will never be interfered with the libusb. obviously the name of the program is libUSB, your keyboard or touchpad is not associated with the usb configuration in any way

poll: what theme is your favorite? [for use with winterboard]

    mine is : iComplete

    it's excellent :D

and is there any way to send emails in landscape mode?
I know there are apps in the app store, but it's too annoying to open up the apps, type, then send to mobile mail.
any app in cydia that enables landscape in mail?

btw, get google street view enabler, you'll get street view in google maps, useless I know LOL

    Hey guys (:
I have a slight problem, anyone heard of the volume boost patch?
Well I installed it and it doesn't seem to work ):
    Any ideas?
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
    same.
i think it is only for uk users becuase there is a law on how loud it can be in the uk . also while i was looking at it there wasnt a FW 2.2.1 version so that might be it too.
then again the ipods speaker blows so hard there really isnt a point to making it louder
  • SiriusDj · 10 months ago
I downloaded the 2.2.1 version and there is no law, thats just for car stereos (: I'm in the UK too. Thanks for trying to help anyway (: I think they just havn't bothered to make the patch for ipt2g yet. Any other ideas guys?
  • TweakMan · 10 months ago
Hey guys, a little off topic here but something you all may be interested in, I sure was.

The guys over at www.AllThingsCell.Com are offering discounts for any member of this blog. There offering 25%-50% discounts on every single item in the store.

From what I seen, they do not currently have many iPod items in stock, but whn I called the store, they said they were adding more soon. They do have some pretty cool iPhone accessories, and a cool stylus pen that works with the ipod touch, and iphone both.

All you have to do is enter this code: ipodfan

When your checking out, and you will get a 25%-50% discount on any items your order. I picked up a stylus cheaper than anywhere online after the discount, and its instant at checkout.

Just figured you all may be interested. Pretty cool to get discounts now for simply falling in love with an ipod. :)

Hey if you look at Musclenerd's Twitter it says he will be doing a vid of the ipt2g "dongle." It says this is like 8 bytes away from an untethered. (dont know what that means lol)
  • n4mn4m · 10 months ago
Me 2 wanna know what this discovery means :) maybe a untethered jb soon :p we can only hope
  • madcowz · 10 months ago
It means that he will make a thing that plugins in to ur iPod that will boot it without a comp.
  • UnLtd · 10 months ago
    I think you gave up.
  • bearsman34 · 10 months ago
so from MuscleNerds twitter im getting that he is going to show us how to build this thing, AND that he wont release and untethered because it has implications for the iphone......so what we cant even think about an untethered til the new iphone is out????

  • Acidbite · 10 months ago
BTW Customize loads for a couple of seconds the it closes automatically.
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
No, as previously stated: it doesn't work with 2.2.x, but the developer is working on making it compatible.

"today we'll show an example of dongle for ipt2g, not an untethered. Untethered carries implications for iPhone (our main goal). "

    Use cyw00d's GUI
    1. go to ipodtouchfans.com
    2. click forums
    3. click ipod touch 2g
    4. click redsn0w
    5. look around on the first or 2nd page in this category:)

I jailbroke mine in like 1 1/2 hours
  • xXShAd0WXx · 10 months ago
Well if you don't know the ipt2g runs on the same os(operating system) as the iPhone...........
  • xXShAd0WXx · 10 months ago
Guy's I believe they have and "dongle" is the fast tethered boot up process as he shown in his previous videos!!!!!!8o
  • xXShAd0WXx · 10 months ago
the crazy part is only eight bytes separate the tethered from untethered iPod Touch 2G jailbroken boot! just 64 bits to bridge that jb boot..

That's what Musclenerd posted a couple of hours ago on his twitter, they may be very close to a permanent..........8D
  • callmebam · 10 months ago
Shadow, you're so misinformed. Always have been. The dongle, according to past posts by the iPhone Dev Team, is like an external booter for the iPod touch 2G. So you can boot on the fly.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
No, that figure is the size of the binary data that you hand enter into RAM when rebooting every time. It has nothing to do with "almost there".

Getting that data to "self load" is difficult in the environment provided, and requires an exploit that is obviously well hidden.

    Here is an analogy:
You have been at Disneyland all day, and when you exit the gate to go back to the hotel, you realize your jailbroken iPod Touch 2G is missing. Here are the facts in this hypothetical situation:
    1) It fell out of your pocket.
    2) It still remains within the borders of the property.
    3) Nobody has taken possession of your iPod.

Answer these 2 questions based on the available information:
    1) How long will it take to find your iPod?
    2) Exactly when will you be 1/2 way done finding your iPod?

Don't forget to "update" everyone at 30 min intervals during the search, because people want to know how close you are to finding your iPod.

This analogy demonstrates how ridiculous it is, asking for updates, or guessing they are "1/2 way done".

    Greetings Chronic Dev Team community!

It's Max Levchin, one of the founders and CEO's of paypal.com reminding you that you can donate money to the Chronic Dev Team via paypal by sending money to the following address:

    ChronicDevFund@yahoo.com

This money collected in the fund will be wired to directly to Chronic and his Dev team to thank them for all the work they've done. As an iPod Touch 2nd generation owner myself, I can't wait for the fabled untethered jailbreak or at least a reliable dongle device.

    Chronic is for n00bz.
  • Sirius Dj · 10 months ago
I really have had enough of this, just shut up, your the 'n00b'. Chronic stayed with us while the iPhone dev team abandoned us at the start. If it wern't for Chronic, I don't think the iPhone guys would have bothered with 'redsn0w'. If Chronic is dumb then you are a retard. iPhone dev are too caught up with 'Yellowsn0w' to bother with us iPod Touch users now. (I think).
  • MuscleNerd · 10 months ago
    All of this polarization :(
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
lol yea. just trying to clear things up now, you guys are working on the 3g for the moment right?... (im not saying chronics stop just asking if the dev team has :)
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I was under the impression based on the latest post at the Dev Team Blog: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/
That the yellowsn0w fix for 2.2.1 was quickly implemented, and the 2G jailbreak research was back in full swing.
  • lovinmyjailbroken2g · 10 months ago
but they've released newwer versions of yellowssn0w i think twice since the post wich is why im asking:)
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
I don't use yellowsn0w, so I haven't been following it that closely, but I imagine since it's a "team" in the lab, both projects can be advanced simultaneously.
  • Stray_Mongrel · 10 months ago
    Kid logic.
I wouldn't take it personal, there are many misconceptions about what is actually going on, despite Chronic-Dev's best efforts to keep the public 110% "in the loop".

There are a number of confusing, and outright ridiculous misconceptions being circulated, and I can't figure out why.

Maybe it's just due the logistics concerning the percentage of gullible people, that exist in any cross section of the general population.
